Brief Program Description:
East West College’s Acupuncturist Professional program provides the students with the competencies to become registered acupuncturists. Graduates of this program are eligible for the Pan Canadian Examination for Acupuncturist and have the ability to start a career in the acupuncture industry. Featured courses such as TCM music, shiliao, tea ceremony, flower arranging, calligraphy, ancient prescriptions, and characteristic treatments are instructed by a strong teaching-staff team including postdocs and professional mentors. The AI (Artificial Intelligence) laboratory and digital library of Chinese medicine inherit the clinical experience of ancient Chinese medicine books and old Chinese medicine, makes intelligent dialectics and prescription matching, combines modern science with traditional Chinese medicine, and promote traditional Chinese medicine further to the world.

After completing East West College’s Acupuncturist Professional Program and passing the national CTCMA Title R.Ac. Acupuncturist Exam; graduates will be able to pursue a career as an acupuncturist.

Admission Requirements:
1. One valid government issued photo ID;
2. For domestic students: two years of studies or more in a government
approved English college or university; for international students: two years
of studies or more (compromised of not less than 60 credits) in a Chinese or
English liberal arts and sciences university approved by ICES;
3. English language proficiency: English 10, or ELTS 5.0, or passing the East
West College’s English entrance test.
Learning Objectives*:
Upon completion of this program the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:
1. Utilize professional communication, develop and maintain effective inter-professional relationships, and develop and maintain effective
relationships with patients.
2. Comply with legal requirements, practice in a matter that accords patient dignity and reflects patient rights, maintain practitioner se/f-care,
and practice with professional integrity.
3. Maintain patient records and utilize effective business strategies.
4. Apply fundamental knowledge TCM principles in diagnosis and treatment, display knowledge of the origin and value of the TCM Classics,
and apply fundamentals of acupuncture in diagnosis and treatment.
5. Apply basic biomedical concepts to TCM practice, relate biomedical diagnostic and treatment approaches to TCM practice, and integrate TCM
and biomedical concepts.
6. Establish priorities for assessment and treating planning, assess patient and analyze assessment information, establish treatment plan based on
diagnosis and provide acupuncture treatment, monitor effectiveness of treatment pland and modify where necessary, and educate and counsel
patient.
7. Perform needing, moxibustion, treatment utilizing supplementary devices, cupping,and tui na.
8. Evaluate patient risk profile, provide a safe working environment, manage risks to patients, and ensure that equipment is safe and functional.
Method(s) of Evaluation*:
Students are assigned academic learning units and a minimum number of practical assessments required for course completion. Academic learning is
evaluated after each unit of study through written exams. Students must maintain a written grade average of 70%. Practical skills are evaluated according to text procedures as set forth in the Practical Skills Competency Evaluation Criteria. Practical Assessments are completed throughout each course. Prior to graduation students must maintain a written grade average of 70% and pass a final written and practical exam. Students must make up failed or missed tests and incomplete assignments.
Completion Requirements*:
Students must attain 70% or greater average on all course work, practical skills, and final exam to complete.
Students at East West College need to complete all program requirements, coursework and exams of the school.
The passing grade for this course is C.
